We all have one thing in common – support for Freemasonry’s long-established principles of integrity, tolerance, kindness, honesty and fairness.

Freemasonry means different things to different people. For some of us it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For others it’s about being able to help deserving causes and making a contribution to the community. For all of us it’s a fulfilling and enjoyable activity.

We are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons’ customs and working tools as allegorical guides.

Freemasons follow three great principles: brotherly love, relief and truth.

Brotherly love: Every true Mason shows tolerance and respect for the opinion of others and behaves with kindness and understanding to his fellow creatures.

Relief: As Freemasons we are taught to practise charity and to care, not only for our own, but also for the community as a whole, both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.

Truth: Freemasons strive for truth and to achieve high moral standards in their personal and public lives.

Freemasonry is not a religion, nor is it a substitute for religion. Neither is it a secret society, since all members are free to acknowledge their membership and will do so in response to enquiries for respectable and valid reasons. Like many other societies, it simply regards some of its internal affairs as private matters.

You should also know that Freemasonry is deliberately non-political, and the discussion of politics at Masonic meetings is forbidden.

Interested in joining?
